Staying Present in a World in Turmoil

In a world that feels like it's constantly shifting, spinning faster than we can keep up, it is easy to become untethered, overwhelmed by headlines, exhausted by the noise, and unsure of how to respond or even be. Many of us are asking the same question:

How do I stay grounded, present, and well when the world around me feels chaotic?

The answer isn’t always simple, but it is possible. Presence is a practice. A sacred, moment-by-moment remembering. A returning home to yourself, even amidst the storm.

Start with the Breath

When everything feels out of control, the breath becomes your anchor. Deep, conscious breathing signals your nervous system that you are safe. Even three mindful breaths can shift your state from reactive to receptive.

Try this: Place a hand on your heart. Breathe in for 4 counts. Hold for 2. Breathe out for 6. Do this three times. Notice how you feel.

Limit the Noise

It’s important to stay informed—but it’s equally important to protect your energetic boundaries. Set healthy limits around your media consumption. Choose when and how you engage, and balance it with time in nature, reading, or stillness.

Presence flourishes when we create space.

Come Back to the Senses

The body is always in the now. Engaging your senses is a powerful way to return to the moment. Light a candle. Hold a warm cup of tea. Run your fingers over a leaf. Listen to the sound of birds or music that soothes your soul. Let your senses become a doorway to presence.

Tend to the Inner World

When the outer world is loud, our inner world can become neglected. Journaling, meditation, or even a simple moment of reflection can help you stay attuned to your emotional landscape. Ask yourself:
What am I feeling?
What do I need right now?

Your feelings are not a problem to fix—they are a part of your humanity to honour.

Connect to What Is Sacred

Whether it is through ritual, prayer, movement, or simply walking barefoot on the earth, connect to something larger than yourself. The sacred reminds us that we are not alone. That even in times of upheaval, there is a thread of grace woven through it all.

You might light a candle for the world, offer a breath for peace, or whisper a quiet prayer:
“May I meet this moment with love.”

Remember Your Circle Matters

You don’t have to hold the whole world. But you can hold your circle with care. Your presence ripples out more powerfully than you know. In every small act of kindness, in every grounded breath, in every moment you choose love over fear—you are healing the collective.

Be Gentle with Yourself

Some days you’ll feel strong and centred. Other days you might feel cracked open. Both are okay. Staying present isn’t about perfection—it’s about compassion. Keep showing up, just as you are. Your humanity is welcome here.

The world may be in turmoil—but within you is a quiet place, a still sanctuary, a deep remembering.

Come home to that space as often as you need.

Breathe. Feel. Anchor. Trust.

You are the calm in the storm.
You are the light in the dark.
You are the presence the world needs.
